Get To Know: Amy Douglas

Introducing Amy Douglas, the vocalist and musical powerhouse hailing all the way from New York City. We caught up about her inspirations, musical prowess and what the future holds for the star.

Q: Can you tell us where your musical journey started?

A:I’ve been singing and writing music since roughly the ages of 6 and 10. Music found me when I was very young, and it was through the intervention of my elementary school music teacher that I was made known of my gifts. Apparently I could sing and didn’t know it so she wrote my mom a letter and said “you should really ask your child to sing, I believe Amy is musically gifted beyond compare.” So, I sang for my mother and the rest is history!

Q: How did the collaboration with Saison come into fruition?

A:Well, I would have to credit Luke here at Future Disco with actually hooking us up, I have not met Leigh or Matt in person yet sadly. What’s really funny is that I found out about Saison walking out of a DJ gig. I had just done the handoff to the DJ taking over for me and the first track they put on was one of theirs!!!! I loved it and so once Luke put it out there that we should work together I definitely came along and solidified that by telling them exactly that story!

Q:Who else have you collaborated with?

A:Well, obviously (or maybe not so obviously) Róisin Murphy, I wrote “Something More” off Roisin Machine, Horse Meat Disco, also Joe Goddard of Hot Chip we released the HARD FEELINGS LP in 2021.

Q: What’s the Disco scene in NYC like, where are the hotspots?

A:Oh, well.. when I start talking about my favorite places to hear the music and dance the very first place I always bring up is Good Room, and the second being Jupiter Disco. Gabriela, Eli Escobar’s club is great.

Q: What are your dreams and dream future collaborators?

A: I’m somebody who doesn’t really like to get stuck in one area because I consider myself a singer songwriter predominantly, and not a “Disco” artist, and I really believe that the future is Post Disco, not to mention that I come from rock so one of the things I’m actually working on is my solo offering and that combines all of my loves together and still keeps everybody dancing.  I would love to work with Jellybean Benitez!

Amy Douglas and Saison join the Future Disco Dance Club on the 17th May with the tune of the summer “Dare Myself”, Pre-save it here.
