Celebrating 15 Years of Future Disco: A Reflection by Label Head Sean Brosnan

As we mark 15 years of Future Disco, it’s a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve had, filled with groundbreaking music and unforgettable experiences on dance floors around the world. Over the years, our compilations have served as a snapshot of the evolving sounds of disco, house, and electronic music, capturing the essence of the dance music culture.

As the label head, curating these compilations has been both a privilege and a passion. Looking back, there have been countless tracks that have left a lasting impact, but narrowing it down to my 15 favorites feels like a fitting tribute to the journey we’ve shared together. So, without further ado, here are my top picks from over the years:

  1. Todd Terje – Eurodans (Volume 3)
    Todd Terje’s “Eurodans” holds a special place in my heart. It’s a track that not only kick-started his career but also resonated with me personally. Todd’s performance in London last month was a testament to his enduring talent, and “Eurodans” remains a timeless classic on our compilations.
  2. Renato Cohen – Suddenly Funk (Volume 7)
    “Suddenly Funk” by Renato Cohen is a track that grabbed my attention instantly. I vividly remember hearing it on the sunset terrace of Space and being blown away by its intensity. Renato’s contribution to the label further solidified his place in the Future Disco family.
  3. Friendly Fires – Paris (Aeroplane Remix) (Volume 1)
    The Aeroplane Remix of “Paris” by Friendly Fires defined a certain future disco sound for me early on. Its indie-disco-electronic fusion captured the essence of what we were striving for with our compilations, setting the tone for the years to come.
  4. Fatima Yamaha – What’s a Girl To Do (Volume 9)
    “What’s a Girl To Do” by Fatima Yamaha stood out as a unique and captivating track. It was clear from the moment I heard it that it had to be included on the album, marking a standout moment in Fatima’s career and our compilations.
  5. Midnight Magic – Beam Me Up (Jacques Renault Edit)
    Jacques Renault’s edit of “Beam Me Up” by Midnight Magic is a disco stomper that always gets the crowd moving. I have fond memories of Jacques playing it on a boat in Croatia, embodying the spirit of those early days of Croatian festivals.
  6. Storm Queen – Look Right Through (Volume 4)
    Before it became a chart-topper, “Look Right Through” by Storm Queen graced Volume 4 of Future Disco. Morgan Geist’s killer production solidified its place as a mainstay in my DJ sets, and it continues to captivate audiences to this day.
  7. Crazy P – The Hit
    Crazy P never fails to deliver funky goodness, and “The Hit” is no exception. Its infectious groove always gets the party started and embodies the feel-good vibes we love to champion at Future Disco.
  8. Lifelike v Alex Rossi – Italo Amore (Musemeci Remix) (Volume 13)
    The Musemeci Remix of “Italo Amore” by Lifelike v Alex Rossi is a summer anthem that packs a punch. Fusing elements of Italo disco into a modern dancefloor monster, it’s a track that continues to ignite dance floors worldwide.
  9. The June Maclean – Happy House (Volume 2)
    “Happy House” by The June Maclean is a marathon of a track, clocking in at over 12 minutes. Its infectious pianos and relentless energy make it a standout record that always delivers on the dance floor.
  10. Art Alfie – Bondkatten (Volume 12)
    “Bondkatten” by Art Alfie is dance floor gold, plain and simple. Its funky baseline never fails to get the crowd moving, making it a staple in my DJ sets over the years.
  11. Skatebard – Bells Of Mist (Volume 10)
    “Bells Of Mist” by Skatebard is a deeper cut that exudes a hypnotic allure. Its drawn-out progression and atmospheric soundscape make it perfect for those sunset moments on the dance floor.
  12. Andras – Your Life (Volume 8)
    “Your Life” by Andras is a quirky gem that never fails to catch my ear. Its off-kilter charm and fresh sound continue to resonate with me, showcasing the diversity of talent on our compilations.
  13. Ten Ven – Turn it Up (Volume 11)
    “Turn it Up” by Ten Ven is a secret weapon in my DJ arsenal. With its infectious energy and funky bassline, it’s guaranteed to set the dance floor ablaze every time.
  14. Yuksek, Dimitri From Paris, Aeroplane – Can’t Get Enough (Volume 14)
    “Can’t Get Enough” brings together a dream team of producers for a soulful disco journey. Yuksek, Dimitri From Paris, and Aeroplane deliver mid-tempo magic that’s pure bliss from start to finish.
  15. James Yuill – This Sweet Love (Prins Thomas Remix)
    Prins Thomas works his magic on “This Sweet Love” by James Yuill, crafting a remix that’s subtle yet irresistible. Its emotive allure and dance floor-ready tempo make it a standout track that always hits the mark.
