Musumeci’s Top 5 Italo Disco Records

If anyone knows a thing or two about Italo Disco it’s Sicilian DJ, Producer and Future Disco affiliate, Mauro Di Martino, better known by his stage name of Musumeci.

Musumeci, who will be heading up Future Disco’s party at Number 90 this weekend, has chosen his top 5 Italo disco records for your listening pleasure, so if you were looking for an introduction to the genre here is a great place to start:

1. Firefly – Love Is Gonna Be On Your Side – Unidisc

“This 12” was part of a collection of records I received together with my first pair of Technics SL-D212 and a Davoli Mixer. I had no idea it was a Italian production, actually I was not even questioning my self where it was coming from, it was just so good!”

2. La Bionda – I Wanna Be Your Lover – Baby Records

“I discovered i fratelli “La Bionda” very late, I still can’t believe how it was possible for me to ignore the existence of these authentic pioneers of Italian disco music.
As a massive fan of science fiction literature and movies as well as a lover of Japanese cartoons of the 80’s I was even more mad at me when I discovered on YouTube the video of this song. Such a brilliant one!”

3. Change – Angel In My Pocket – RFC

“Mauro Malavasi is a legend in Italy for his collaboration with some of the greatest songwriters and musicians of our country but maybe not everyone knows he was behind the production of such a good disco tracks in the italo era.
I use to play and love so much “Paradise” by Change which I think can be considered a proper hymn of Italo Disco, but if I have to choose “Angel In My Pocket” is absolutely my favourite!”

4. Mr. Flagio – Take A Chance – Squish

“Probably one of the most celebrated records of the italo era, is not a secret me and Phunkadelica took the inspiration from this masterpiece for our “Keep It Stronger” output on Permanent Vacation.”

5. Kano – It’s A War – Full Time

“Kano doesn’t need an introduction. Simply Italo Disco at its peak!”

You can catch Musumeci working his magic in person at Future Disco’s Technicolour Discotheque event at Number 90 in Hackney Wick this weekend. Our last show was a sell out so get yourself a ticket while you still have a chance.
